Moving a Fridge or Washing Machine in Singapore: Pickup Checklist
Before collecting a used fridge or washing machine, agree who prepares it, check access at both addresses and send the carrier the details that affect the quote.
Before Collection
Get the model number and packed dimensions from the seller, including any protrusions such as handles, hoses or feet. Ask the seller for an estimated packed weight. If you start with the weight in the manual, account for any packing added for transport.
Agree on the following before booking transport:
- Appliance readiness — when will it be disconnected and ready to collect?
- Delivery landing point — ground floor, lobby, unit door or inside?
- Route at both ends — corridor widths, doorway clearance, lift dimensions and any stairs
- Building access approvals, loading bays or time windows required at either location (building access guide)
Decide whether a van or 10 ft lorry fits the item and access. Plan loading responsibility and any equipment such as a trolley or straps with your carrier before the day.
Prepare a Fridge for Pickup
Find the model's user manual for transport and reconnection instructions. Agree who will empty it and complete any defrosting the manual calls for before pickup.
LG Singapore advises moving a fridge upright where possible and discusses reconnection after a move. Check your own manufacturer manual for the recommended orientation and when to restore power, especially if the unit was tilted during transport.
Ask your carrier to confirm space for the required orientation and how they will handle it.
Installation, plumbing and reconnection at the destination may require a qualified technician.
Prepare a Washing Machine for Pickup
Bosch Singapore explains that transport bolts protect the drum during a move and should be removed before use. Check which transport parts your model uses and whether the seller still has them.
If parts are missing or you are unsure, contact the manufacturer or get qualified help before moving the machine.
Ask the seller who will prepare the washer for collection, including any manufacturer-required drainage or disconnection steps. Confirm this is done before the carrier arrives.
Agree who will reconnect it at the destination. Arrange a technician if required.
What Your Carrier Needs to Quote
A transport quote needs these details ready:
- Appliance model and packed dimensions (height × width × depth including protrusions)
- Estimated packed weight
- Required transport position (upright, specific orientation)
- Pickup and delivery addresses, access type and time windows
- Stairs, lift availability and corridor width at both ends
- Agreed labour, equipment and who loads and unloads
- Delivery endpoint — ground floor, unit door or further?
Download the appliance pickup brief (.txt) as a ready-to-complete worksheet.
A 10 ft lorry with driver is one option, subject to item size and access. See lorry hire vs moving service to understand what different services include.
Ask the carrier to list any room-to-room carrying, stair work, installation or disposal in the written quote, together with the total price.
Do I need a moving company to pick up a second-hand fridge or washing machine?
A lorry with driver can be an option if the vehicle fits and you have arranged safe loading and unloading. Ask the carrier to specify which labour, stairs and handling work the quote covers. Arrange installation separately unless the provider confirms it.
How do I know if a fridge or washing machine will fit in a 10 ft lorry?
Compare the packed appliance with the published cargo-bay dimensions and confirm the actual opening on the assigned vehicle. Check that the appliance can stay in the orientation specified by its manufacturer and that it can pass through lifts, doorways and turns at both addresses.
