Van vs 10ft Lorry in Singapore: Which Fits Your Delivery?

A van and a 10 ft lorry serve different loads, but the category name alone does not tell you which one fits your cargo. Here is how to screen both options before you book.

Published Load Limits Vary by Provider

Start with the packed dimensions of the largest item and the total weight of the load. Then check the published limits for each vehicle you are considering.

Lalamove Singapore publishes two van tiers: a 1.7 m van with a maximum load size of 160 × 120 × 100 cm and 350 kg, and a 2.4 m van at 230 × 120 × 120 cm and 500 kg. GoGoX Singapore lists its van maximum at 2.3 × 1.2 × 1.2 m and 500 kg. These are the providers' accepted load sizes. A vehicle's internal bay measurements describe its space and can differ from a provider's load limits.

Omni Global's 10ft lorry lists a cargo bay of 3.08 × 1.56 × 1.95 m and a capacity of 1 tonne. Confirm both the space and the allowed load on the vehicle assigned to your job.

Screening a Rigid Packed Item

Take a hypothetical rigid packed item measuring 250 × 70 × 55 cm and weighing 60 kg, entered in its upright orientation.

The 250 cm length exceeds the 230 cm maximum published by Lalamove for its 2.4 m van tier and the 2.3 m maximum listed by GoGoX. In this entered orientation, the item would not pass the screening step for a van booking on either platform.

The same 250 cm length is within the 308 cm listed bay length on Omni's 10 ft lorry page. All three entered dimensions (250, 70 and 55 cm) fall within the listed 3.08 × 1.56 × 1.95 m bay. Before booking, confirm:

  • The actual cargo door opening on the assigned vehicle
  • Any turns required to load the item into the bay
  • Available loading equipment at your location
  • The specific vehicle assigned to your job

The example compares the item in one orientation. Ask the provider to confirm whether it can be loaded through the opening and carried in that position.

Vehicle Height and Building Access

Vehicle height matters as much as cargo space. Omni lists the overall vehicle height of its 10 ft lorry at about 2.95 m. If your pickup or delivery site has a posted entrance height of 2.4 m, the listed lorry height exceeds it.

Ask the site manager whether there is an approved street-level loading point. If you need a lower vehicle, ask the provider for its actual overall height and check the clearance along the entire access route.

For detailed guidance on measuring your items against bay dimensions, see the lorry size guide item dimensions section. If your building has restricted vehicle access or requires advance booking for the loading bay, the building access guide covers common clearance and booking requirements in Singapore.

Comparing Quotes on the Same Terms

When requesting quotes from different providers, compare on the same basis:

  • The same cargo list with dimensions and weights
  • The same number of pickup and delivery stops
  • The same time window (morning, afternoon or a specific slot)
  • The same loading and unloading responsibility (driver-assist, your own labour or hired manpower)

Check whether each quote is per trip, distance-based or hourly. Ask what the quoted amount covers and how the provider handles:

  • Transport time beyond the base period
  • Waiting time at each stop
  • Additional stops added after booking
  • Manpower for loading and unloading, if not included

Omni's hourly rates and minimum booking periods are detailed on the lorry rental rates page. Request a written total for the same itinerary and handling scope before comparing prices.

FAQ

Questions before you book

Question not listed? Ask us on WhatsApp

Can I fit a 2.5 m long item in a van?

A 2.5 m item is longer than the 2.3 m maximum published for the two larger van examples above. Van limits vary. Ask the provider for the allowed load size and the assigned vehicle's door opening. Omni's 10ft bay lists 3.08 m of length, so it is worth checking the opening and loading path.

What if my building entrance is lower than the lorry height?

Ask the site manager for an approved alternative loading point. If you need a lower vehicle, check its actual overall height against the lowest clearance on the access route. Omni lists about 2.95 m overall height for its 10ft lorry.
