Pallet Sizes for Lorry and Warehouse Enquiries in Singapore

Record the pallet reference and measure the actual loaded unit, including the pallet, cargo and protrusions. These details, together with weight and access requirements, help a provider assess transport, storage and equipment before quoting.

Named reference pallet footprints

Three named pallet references are listed below with their published footprint and empty height. These are empty pallet dimensions; the actual loaded size will differ.

ReferenceFootprintEmpty height
EPAL 1 (Euro Pallet)800 × 1200 mm (0.8 × 1.2 m)144 mm (0.144 m)
EPAL 21200 × 1000 mm (1.2 × 1.0 m)162 mm (0.162 m)
CHEP Perimeter Wooden Pallet1200 × 1000 mm (1.2 × 1.0 m)154 mm (0.154 m)

EPAL publishes the two EPAL reference formats. Compare their empty dimensions in the table, then measure your actual loaded unit separately.

The CHEP Perimeter Wooden Pallet has a footprint of 1200 × 1000 mm with an empty height of 154 mm. This is the specific manufacturer reference for that pallet type. Although EPAL 2 and the CHEP pallet share a 1200 × 1000 mm footprint, their empty heights differ by 8 mm. Confirm the actual pallet in use rather than assuming one reference applies to your goods.

These references do not establish a universal Singapore standard, an assurance that any provider accepts a particular pallet, or that Omni Global supplies, sells or rents pallets.

Footprint comparison diagram

The diagram below draws the two named footprints at the same scale. It shows floor area only, not loaded height or pallet construction.

Measure the actual loaded unit

A loaded pallet is taller, may be wider and may weigh more than the empty reference. Measure the actual loaded unit before requesting a transport, storage or forklift quote:

  • Outer length of the loaded unit, including any protrusion beyond the pallet edge
  • Outer width, including protrusions
  • Total height from the floor to the top of the highest item, including the pallet
  • Known weight of the loaded unit, stated separately from dimensions

If the weight is unknown, state that it is unknown rather than converting dimensions to an approximate weight. If items overhang the pallet edge, measure the overall footprint including the overhang. Include actual loaded measurements in your enquiry and ask the provider how they affect the space assessment.

Floor area and CBM do not guarantee pallet counts

Floor area and cubic metres measure different things. Neither alone establishes a reliable pallet count. Several factors determine how many pallets actually fit:

  • Opening dimensions: the vehicle door or storage bay entrance may be narrower than the floor
  • Weight: the total loaded weight may reach the vehicle or floor capacity before the area fills
  • Orientation: pallet direction affects aisle access, forklift reach and retrieval sequence
  • Handling clearance: confirm the space needed for the planned handling equipment and route
  • Access and retrieval: the arrangement and retrieval sequence affect whether other goods must be moved first

State the actual pallet reference, loaded dimensions, weight and quantity in your enquiry. Ask the provider to confirm whether the vehicle, storage bay or equipment can accommodate your pallets in the proposed arrangement.

Quotation checklist for palletised goods

Include the following with your enquiry for palletised goods:

  • Pallet reference and quantity
  • Actual loaded outer dimensions (L × W × total H including pallet)
  • Known weight per loaded unit, or state unknown
  • Protrusions, irregular shapes or non-stackable items
  • Pickup and delivery locations with access details
  • Equipment and crew requirements to confirm
  • Handling restrictions

For lorry size selection, see the lorry size guide. For cargo volume estimation, use the cargo volume calculator. For published lorry rates, see the rates and estimator. For forklift, warehouse storage or 3PL enquiries, include these pallet details alongside your service requirements.

Record your pallet details in the measurement brief

Record the details for each pallet type or loaded unit before contacting a provider. Leave items you have not confirmed blank rather than guessing. Unstated items remain unknown, not confirmed absent.

Measurement brief

Print and complete one brief per pallet type. Send it with your quote request so the provider can confirm vehicle, equipment and access. Nothing is booked or submitted by this worksheet.

FAQ

Questions before you book

Question not listed? Ask us on WhatsApp

Are these the standard pallet sizes in Singapore?

These are named published references, not a universal Singapore standard. Different pallets with different dimensions and heights are in use. Confirm the actual pallet type, its dimensions and whether the provider accepts it before arranging transport or storage.

Can I calculate how many pallets fit on a lorry from the floor area alone?

No. Floor area divided by a pallet footprint ignores opening dimensions, weight limits, orientation, handling clearance and access requirements. State the pallet reference, actual loaded dimensions, weight and quantity so the provider can confirm the vehicle and arrangement.

What pallet details should I include in a transport or storage quote request?

Include the pallet reference, quantity, actual loaded outer dimensions, total height including the pallet, known weight or state unknown, any protrusions or handling restrictions, and the pickup and delivery locations with access details. Use the measurement brief on this page to organise the information.
