Preparing Business Goods for Warehouse Storage
A useful storage enquiry begins with an inventory of what will arrive, when it is needed and how it must be handled. Use this general preparation checklist and local calculator to organise your goods before asking a provider to confirm the arrangement.
Count and identify package groups
Give each package group a reference you can recognise on both the inventory and its labels. Separate different sizes or contents into different rows, and count quantities rather than using an unverified estimate where a count is available. Note what will be retrieved together and what might be needed separately.
Record the condition of items and any existing damage before transport. Photographs can support your own records, but permission is needed before publishing identifiable customer or business material. This is general preparation guidance, not an assertion about Omni Global’s receiving or inspection procedure.
Measure the outside of packed goods
Measure external length, width and height after packaging. For a loaded pallet, measure the full loaded unit, including the pallet and any protrusions. Use a consistent unit for each row and record the quantity of identical packages. Keep known weight alongside the inventory: volume cannot establish load weight.
Do not add an arbitrary clearance allowance to measured dimensions and present it as the package size. Record actual dimensions and tell the provider about irregular shapes, fragile surfaces, non-stackable items and space needed for retrieval. Ask how these affect handling and chargeable storage space.
Calculate geometric cargo volume
For a rectangular package, multiply length × width × height × quantity. With measurements in centimetres, divide the result by 1,000,000 to obtain cubic metres. Calculate different package groups separately and add their volumes.
The result is a geometric estimate only. It does not establish vehicle fit, pallet positions, chargeable storage space or price. Opening sizes, weight limits, stacking restrictions and access need a separate assessment. Save or print the information yourself if you want to include it with an enquiry; the calculator does not submit it.

Estimate the total cubic metres of your goods. All calculations stay in your browser. Use actual external packed dimensions. Geometric volume does not establish vehicle fit, pallet positions, chargeable storage space or price.
Label and protect goods for the agreed handling
Use package references that match the inventory. Note fragile items, orientation and handling restrictions where applicable, and keep labels readable after wrapping. Follow the product or equipment maker’s packing instructions; ask a competent handler about heavy, fragile or unusual loads rather than assuming boxes can be stacked or lifted safely.
Confirm packaging, pallet condition, loading and unloading responsibilities with the provider before dispatch. If you want packing or repacking quoted, describe that requirement explicitly. The guide does not establish that these services, packing materials or specialist storage conditions are included.
Prepare the manifest and the storage brief
Print a completed manifest or a blank worksheet from the calculator. Include package references, quantities, dimensions and units, condition notes and questions to confirm. Incomplete or invalid measurements remain uncalculated; a partial sum should not be mistaken for a full consignment volume.
Provide the intended start date, expected duration, collection and delivery locations, access restrictions and retrieval frequency. Note weight where known and any handling or environmental requirements. Ask the provider to confirm suitable space and the full quoted scope before goods are sent.
Use the warehouse page for a storage enquiry. If stock also needs recurring picking, packing and delivery, use the existing 3PL brief builder. The quotation comparison helps distinguish stated charges from items still needing an answer.
What does the cargo-volume calculator measure?
It adds the rectangular geometric volume of package groups from dimensions and quantities. It does not establish vehicle fit, pallet positions, chargeable storage space or price; confirm weight, access and handling separately.
Does the inventory get sent to Omni Global automatically?
No. Calculator entries stay in the current browser page. You can print the manifest and choose what to include in your own enquiry; there is no registration or automatic submission.
What should I prepare for a warehouse storage quote?
Provide package counts, external packed dimensions and units, known weight, condition and handling notes, storage dates, retrieval frequency and any collection or delivery requirements. Ask the provider to confirm suitability, availability, scope and charges.
